Guest ganderees Posted 17 April , 2016 Share Posted 17 April , 2016 I am researching 2nd Lt Gordon S Frazier. He was wounded on 12th October 1917 and was serving with the 8th Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment. Are there any war diaries available anywhere to look for the circumstances surrounding the casualties in the Battalion on that day. The Kew Archives no not appear to have a copy in their archive for the 8th Battalion.
clk Posted 17 April , 2016 Share Posted 17 April , 2016 Hi ganderees, Welcome to the forum. The war diary appears to be available for download for a modest fee from the National Archives from here, or by subscription from Ancestry here. It's also always worth looking at the Brigade HQ and Division HQ (General Staff) diaries for extra contextual information, as they often contain additional information - maps, orders, reports on operations, etc that aren't included in the Battalion diary. Rollerbeadle Posted 17 April , 2016 Share Posted 17 April , 2016 The diary for the 8th South Staffs is available on Ancestry.... However if you just want to know about what happened on that particular day here is a link to a Memorial Page which has a transcript of the diary for the 12th October.
