josiec4 Posted 14 April , 2016 Share Posted 14 April , 2016 I found these items in a collection of WW1 buttons and insignia, mostly from Canada, Great Britiain, Germany and Czechoslovakia. They are made of brass, and resemble a maple leaf or a grape leaf. Thee is a small attachment piece at the bottom of the back of each one (as seen on the smaller one to the left, which is face down). They are almost the same, but sizes are different. The larger one is 3 1/4" tall by 3 1/4" wide. The smaller one is 2 3/4 by 2 3/4". I have no idea what they are or what they are for. Can anyone help me?
The Inspector Posted 14 April , 2016 Share Posted 14 April , 2016 Hi Perhaps they were being made into "Sweetheart Badges" Regards Barry
Sepoy Posted 14 April , 2016 Share Posted 14 April , 2016 Unfortunately, I personally do not think that these are military in origin and their size make them a little large to be sweet heart brooches. The small socket mount looks like they have come off a stand of some description. Most British/Commonwealth military badges had either a slider; loops or occasionally pin brooch mounts. josiec4 Posted 15 April , 2016 Author Share Posted 15 April , 2016 I think you are correct. They are a bit too fragile to be military. Thanks for your help!
Trev2386 Posted 15 April , 2016 Share Posted 15 April , 2016 It looks like sort of thing that would have made up a display of mess silver? Trev
Khaki Posted 15 April , 2016 Share Posted 15 April , 2016 In my opinion they appear to be from a metal floral wall display similar to below, khaki
