9th Black Watch Posted 28 November , 2004 Share Posted 28 November , 2004 Just wondered if someone could confirm whether the rank details on all Australian WWI British War and Victory medals differ from those on British medals - the 'TE' of 'PTE.' or 'JT' of 'SJT.' impressed in smaller underlined superscript letters, similar to the style that appears on gallantry medals. All the best, Derek
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 28 November , 2004 Share Posted 28 November , 2004 Derek, There is a good section on the naming of medals in Howard Williamson's book. Do you have a copy? Ian PS Glad you liked the photo!
9th Black Watch Posted 28 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 28 November , 2004 Cheers Ian, I have a copy of the book. Howard mentions that Australian WWI medals are named in this distinct style. I've recently come across a pair which doesn't conform. The rank is as it would appear on a British medal. Just wondered if this was common or whether it may have been a replacement, late issue etc. All the best, Derek
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 28 November , 2004 Share Posted 28 November , 2004 Derek, I have not heard of any dodgy Aussie stuff on the market at the moment - only South African Cheers - Ian
