Skipman Posted 31 March , 2016 Share Posted 31 March , 2016 The Manchester Evening News has this interesting widget. Not sure how new this is, but it may be useful. Probably nothing the Geoff's engine can't do. Search by Street. Click Here Mike
ss002d6252 Posted 1 April , 2016 Share Posted 1 April , 2016 I think your right about Geoff's search engine Mike. Although they allow a street search on that site the CWGC data with an address is mainly that of relatives rather than the casualty themselves so it's going to be more limited than many would expect. johnboy Posted 1 April , 2016 Share Posted 1 April , 2016 Does it just cover Manchester?
Knotty Posted 1 April , 2016 Share Posted 1 April , 2016 It appears to cover all over. I typed into the town/city Kidderminster and was returned a list of addresses in Kiddy, formerly from Kiddy, near Kiddy etc. Same for my home town, not only the above scenarios, but also gave soldiers with the name Newbury, so it is a fairly well written piece of code. Staffsyeoman Posted 1 April , 2016 Share Posted 1 April , 2016 I tried addresses in Kent (now part of London); Birmingham and Southampton - and all worked. Useful widget.
johnboy Posted 1 April , 2016 Share Posted 1 April , 2016 I'll try again as I drew a blank on a London street name where I know of a casualty with CWGC giving the address.
stiletto_33853 Posted 1 April , 2016 Share Posted 1 April , 2016 Just been playing around a little with this, very useful little additional tool to use. Andy
Ian C Posted 2 April , 2016 Share Posted 2 April , 2016 Hi Don't know if anyone else has seen this: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/nostalgia/world-war-one-search-soldiers-7519123 Helped me find four new casualties for my website about Fenny Stratford. Phil Wood Posted 5 April , 2016 Share Posted 5 April , 2016 What does it do that the CWGC advanced search doesn't? Since they added searches of the 'Additional Info' field you can search for towns and streets there.
