Hi,

From the dog tag it looks like he probably enlisted into Newcastle Commercial Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers as regimental number 916?

Long Long Trail gives -

16th (Service) Battalion (Newcastle)

Formed at Newcastle in September 1914 by the Newcastle & Gateshead Chamber of Commerce.

June 1915 : came under orders of 96th Brigade, 32nd Division.

Landed at Boulogne 22 November 1915.

February 1918 : disbanded in Belgium.

Have you looked for 1914/15 Star roll under that number in NF?

Have you looked on London Gazette for his commission details?

I think his "foreign gong" will also be there.

Of you put Northumberland Fusiliers in your topic title I'm sure Graham Stewart would pick it up.

Good Luck

Steve Y

According to Maton's Honour the Recipients of Foreign Awards no Italian medal was gazetted to 2nd Lt James Henderson Morrison during the Great War. During the Great War the Italian government presented a number of different bronze medals and medallions to British troops to commemorate various battles (for example a medallion to commemorate the crossing of the Piave in October 1918). These were not recognized by the British government as official awards and were not announced in the London Gazette.
