bobpike Posted 19 September , 2006 Author Share Posted 19 September , 2006 Geoff, I have, thank-you. The 6th. were certainly a New Army battalion - K1 - formed at Preston in August 1914, but I do not know if this constitutes a 'Pals' Battalion. Hopefully there is someone out there who can throw more light on this, Albert Fisher & the missing 'Barlow' brother? Bob

Guest geoff501 Posted 20 September , 2006 Share Posted 20 September , 2006 PS For some reason I'm not receiving e-mail notification of postings at the moment, so if I'm slow to respond... I had noticed the e-mail notifications are running slow at times, but the site seems otherwise at full speed. How about these two? Looks possible. http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=682227 http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_detail...casualty=171412 And these two may be related, you work it out! bobpike Posted 21 September , 2006 Author Share Posted 21 September , 2006 Geoff, It is confusing, but I feel they are both 'qualifiers.' SDGW says the Breens were born in the same place; Margaret is a very common name, thus the wife could be the same name as the mother; but why one has father's name & the other mother's is one of those many anomalies thrown up by CWGC, I suppose, Bob
Guest geoff501 Posted 21 September , 2006 Share Posted 21 September , 2006 but why one has father's name & the other mother's is one of those many anomalies thrown up by CWGC, I suppose, I presume simply because the info was supplied by a different person - Thomas' wife. I've noticed quite a few differences in the next of kin comments. I suspect the forms arrived over a longish timescale. It is also common to see one or both of the parents died in the time between the submission of the comments for brothers.
bobpike Posted 21 September , 2006 Author Share Posted 21 September , 2006 Yes, I have noticed how often a parent died between the deaths of their sons. I suspect in was often grief. In Saffron Walden it is documented that one mother succumbed this way between the deaths of her second and third so (All 3 died) - not surprising really, Bob
Guest geoff501 Posted 21 September , 2006 Share Posted 21 September , 2006 Bob, yet more, including more untimely deaths of parents. Gallipoli casualty is the first link of the pair. bobpike Posted 23 September , 2006 Author Share Posted 23 September , 2006 Geoff, I'll avoid summary execution if you don't mind! Thank you for the previous three sets, all new, but I knew of the 2 Gallipoli Galbraiths but not the third. A terrible loss, but do you infer that the fourth survived, small consolation?
