Bob,

I presume that you already have the Jarrett brothers -Major Charles (25/4/15, Gallipoli) and Captain A.V (22/6/15, Flanders) , as they are mentioned in "To What End Did They Die? Officers died at Gallipoli" ?

Philip

Thank you all for resurrecting this topic. I have for some time been researching this on behalf of the 'Gallipoli Association,' the results hopefully to be published this year (by results, I mean as they stand at the time of publication, the search will continue). I am very interested in all members can suggest, & I will check these supplied by Steve & Ian, and would most welcome ALL others Steve has. The criteria for inclusion is -

1. Sets of brothers (two or more) who both perished on Gallipoli.

2. Men who died on Gallipoli, or as the result of wounds/illness received on Gallipoli who lost a brother/brothers in other fields of conflict at an earlier, or a later date during the War.

At present 1. stands at 179 sets & 2. at 752,

Bob

Hi Bob,

I am getting back in touch with you about two "brothers" that I previously provided you with information:

Sgt. James Callander, 9419, 1st KOSB, kia, 21/8/1915, Dardanelles, and

Pte. David Callander, 301535, 1/7th Royal Scots, dow, 24/11/1917, Egypt

It's a long story but suffice to say that they should be struck from your database; I have found the service record for David which shows that they are not brothers. The confusion arose because two David Callanders were born same year, same place, but one (the soldier, not the brother) didn't show up on birth/census searches because they were wrongly transcribed as Callendar! Sorry for the confusion.

You once mentioned that you would like to include a little article about Sgt. James Callander in a publication to which you contribute - if you still have the time/inclination to do this and would like a photograph of this man (can't remember if I attached one previously) to accompany the article, then please let me know.

n.b. All other sets of brothers that I sent details of to you are the real deal!

Stuart

Stuart & Steve,

Thank you very much,

Stuart,

Yes, please to the Callender photo.

Steve,

Great listing, seven are new to me. Can I make a couple of observations, please?

As far as I can ascertain William Sheldon is Herbert's uncle not his brother.

I cannot find a casualty Arthur De LAUTOUR (CWGC spelling), but I think the confusion is in his brothers's AWM records which could be read as him dying, but actually refers to his winning a medal.

I think William Adams' brother is Sgt. V D Adams 25th. AIF 31.10.15,

Please send more,

Cheers,

Bob

This is a long shot - I am doing my family history, and on the marraige certificate of my Grandmother, in Preston Lancashire, 29th February, 1932 the witnessess of the marraige are Harcourt and Mary Hall and on searching the census returns the only Harcourt Hall's I could find were living in Norfolk and Scarborough and they have a son called Cubitt. !!! Are these people in your tree or is it just research on brothers who died. Yours in anticipation. Sharon
