Educated Coopers Hill; joined Indian Public Works Department 1888. Volunteered for active service august 1914. Lt Colonel RE; served with the East African Expeditionary Force October 1914 - March 1918 and then in Mesopotamia until the end of the war. The records of the Institute of Civil Engineers shows him as Deputy Director Railways, East African Expeditionary Force.
