Sir John (now Lord) French's Despatches [London Gazette, 1 Jan. 1916], and awarded the Military Cross 13 May, 1915, for services at the Second Battle of Ypres.' It might well be worth following up on JPs lead though to see if he is mentioned in the Battalion war diary, to see if you can infer a primary reason.
