dwickens Posted 17 January , 2016 Share Posted 17 January , 2016 Sydney service number ply 18499 joined R.M.L.I underage according to his naval record, Then re-joined a year later. Left navy !917 (record shows discharged) He was issued special war badge number 16040 then died 1919 aged 19 and is buried in Plymouth under war graves commission. I presume he was wounded and died as a cause of this. Can anyone shed any light on this.
horatio2 Posted 17 January , 2016 Share Posted 17 January , 2016 There is an attestation pack of papers for him in the archive of the Fleet Air Arm Museum. The answer may lie there. He may have been invalided sick rather than wounded. At age 17 he was not "underage" for naval service.
