Sparky53 Posted 23 November , 2004 Share Posted 23 November , 2004 Great Uncle Private James Keeling North Staffordshire Regt /RAMC I am told he was a prisoner of war. He is going to be very hard to trace as I don't know his Battalion. He has 2 different Army Nos N Staffs 20558; RAMC 147124 Does the new RAMC give any clues to when he changed units? I did meet Uncle Jim as a small girl and remember he has shrapnel in his leg; mighttry the PIN records at nat Archive as can't find him in any War Office ones. Has anyone had any success with the Red Cross looking up POWs. I couldn't find the right link on their wesite. All the best Jane
Guest Ian Bowbrick Posted 23 November , 2004 Share Posted 23 November , 2004 Medal roll might give his Staffs Bn, but there is always his service record of course, if it has survived..........................
manxman Posted 24 November , 2004 Share Posted 24 November , 2004 re Red Cross contact them by going to www.cicr.org . Follow the links. They charge for a search of their records. Be prepared for a long wait, it took three months to get a reply. The reply is in the form of a modern day certificate which displays the info. they hold (in my case a report of my G. Grandfather's capture (just date/camp/injuries). The silver lining was that because they took so long the charge was waived.
