Don Regiano Posted 18 October , 2016 Share Posted 18 October , 2016 (edited) Sorry for the slight tangent but does anyone have definitive information on the precise location of 10 Lancashire Fusiliers who relieved 8 Devonshires and 2 Gordons on 26 June 1916 and were themselves relieved by 9 Devonshires, 2 Gordons and 2 Borders on 28 June 1916? Having read various war diaries and the excellent posts in this topic, I think they may have been in the front trenches somewhere between F.11.4 and F.11.8 (see post 7 above from Frajohn for map). I am researching a soldier, Cpl Wright Waterhouse, for my wife’s friend who lives in Australia. We will be visiting the Somme shortly and would like to take some photographs of the area in which he fell on 27 June 1916 to send to her together with a photograph of his grave. He was one of 23 from the 10LF who were KIA that day. I suspect it was as a result of the heavy shelling referred to in earlier posts and on this website about the death of his colleague, L/Cpl Edwin Willdig: http://macclesfieldreflects.org.uk/1916/06/27/willdig-edwin/ which was part of the shelling referred to in post 12 above that caused the Devonshires to launch their attack on 1 July from the support trenches. Thanks in advance for any help and ,once again, apologies for the slight diversion. Reg Edited 18 October , 2016 by Don Regiano
