MaureenE Posted 4 January , 2016 Share Posted 4 January , 2016 (edited) Two online regimental histories seen mentioned on another Forum, both pdf downloads from the Digital Library of India. The Gurkhas http://www.new.dli.ernet.in/handle/2015/126645 https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.126645 Archive.org mirror version This appears to be a reprint edition, for which no author is given, and which advises first published 1960. However the last chapter refers to events in 1964.The most likely publication appears to be The Gurkhas by Harold James and Denis Sheil-Small published 1965, London Valour Enshrined http://www.new.dli.ernet.in/handle/2015/136498 Full title: ''Valour enshrined. A history of the Maratha Light Infantry, 1768-1947'' by M.G. Abhyankar [Volume1], published 1971. (There was a second volume published, by C.L. Proudfoot in 1980, covering the period 1947-1979). The DLI file appears to be a reprint edition which advises first published 1960, but this date is not correct for this book. A mirror edition is available on Archive.org https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.136498 At the time of the Great War, the various constituent regiments which continued after the war were 103rd Mahratta Light Infantry 105th Mahratta Light Infantry 110th Mahratta Light Infantry 114th Mahrattas 116th Mahrattas 117th Mahrattas, but there may have been other regiments which were disbanded. Two more from the Digital Library of India which I found in the catalogue recently (pdf downloads) Official History of Operations on the N.-W. Frontier of India, 1920-35 by General Staff Army Headquarters, India 1945. http://www.new.dli.ernet.in/handle/2015/449186 Official History of Operations on the N.W. Frontier of India, 1936-37' by General Staff Army Headquarters, India 1943. http://www.new.dli.ernet.in/handle/2015/449185 The Digital Library of India has been unavailable for extended periods of time recently (maintenance?), but at the time of writing was available. Cheers Maureen edit: changed URLs. Currently DLI is unavailable. Edited 29 June , 2017 by Maureene

MaureenE Posted 28 April , 2018 Author Share Posted 28 April , 2018 (edited) You may have read elsewhere that the Digital Library of India has been closed for approximately a year, but prior to that many, but not all, of its book files were uploaded to the Internet Archive (Archive.org). Did anyone download to their own computer (and keep) two of the books mentioned above, Official History of Operations on the N.-W. Frontier of India, 1920-35, and Official History of Operations on the N.W. Frontier of India, 1936-37, as these are two of the books not now available on the Internet Archive (Archive.org)? If you have the downloaded file(s) on your computer, please consider uploading it/them the the Internet Archive. This is a simple process, although you do need a "good" internet speed. For details see my post Cheers Maureen Edited: 14 November 2020 These files have become available on the Internet Archive (Archive.org} https://archive.org/details/dli.ernet.449186 https://archive.org/details/dli.ernet.449185 Edited 14 November , 2020 by Maureene
