Robert Elliot Huggan, a Lieutenant in the 9th Highland Light Infantry attached to the 3rd/1st King's African Rifles, died on 29 May 1918 and is buried in Mangochi Town Cemetery in Malawi.

Most sources show "Died" and I'm intrigued that his Medal Roll included a note "Poisoning" as does the Soldiers Effects Register.

Before I start digging too far, has anyone come across the story????

He did try to enlist in the 1st Sportsman Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers in November 1914 as Elliot Huggan before he joined the 9th (Glasgow Highlanders) HLI as Private 3840. He was promoted to Sergeant before being commissioned in December 1916.

Best wishes

Ken
