Hello All!

I used a graphics imaging package to clean up my Grandfathers MCI. It was a great help in helping to bring out the original writing.

I need some insight on the following:

  • 1 Above the Corps column there is an x with a dot above and below it. It appears beside the A\Cpl entry Any idea what this is shorthand for?
  • 2 It also appears beside the Roll number of his Victory medal. Would this indicate that he was of this rank when he received the Victory medal?
  • 3 Anybody have any ideas on the word appearing in the SWB entry between SWB and the roll number?
  • 4 Concerning the British medal is that an 'R' that appears in the roll and page columns? If so, any ideas on it? Would it indicate that it has the same rool and page number as the Victory medal?

Any other info would be greatly appreciated .

Brendan

Hi Ian!

Thanks for your swift and knowledgable reply!!!

That certainly clears things up for me. I am only in possession of his Victory Medal , the 14-15 Star and his SWB. You are spot on as the Victory Medal has the following inscription:

"3659 A.CPL. P.J. Crowe R.MUN. FU"

Interestingly enough the 14-15 Star has the following inscription:

"3659 PTE.P.J. Crowe R.MUNS. FUS"

Would this indicate that he was a private during the period the Star covers?
