93rd Battery, 280th Brigade, RFA. War Diary

Morning,

Ancestry is doing my head in looking for R.F.A. War Diaries.

Researching a man DoW on 7 August 1917 who served in

93rd Battery, 280th Brigade, RFA.

The NA have the WD here

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7354905

but I'll be blowed if I can find it on Ancestry.

Can anyone;

a) point me to the diary

or the next letter) post the WD for the dates around this time.

Many thanks,

Graeme

280 Bde Diary on Ancestry here (56th Div) Edit oops index says 280 but detail seems to be King Edward's Horse!

Ancestry Index says 280Bde RFA but it doesn't come up - beats me too!

Scroll through the King Edward's Horse pages - it should come afterwards. If you get 281 Bde you have gone too far.

WO 95/2940/1 1916 Mar. - May
`B' Squadron 2 King Edward's Horse
WO 95/2940/2 1915 Oct. - 1919 June
280 Brigade Royal Field Artillery
WO 95/2940/3 1915 Aug. - 1919 May
281 Brigade Royal Field Artillery

If all else fails, refer to the CRA diary for 56th Division. I've highlighted it from the Browse function.

If the actual links to 280th Brigade RFA lead to somewhere else then it is an Ancestry fault. I don't have a current subscription to check it out.

It is an Ancestry index problem and I reported it this morning. What response I will get I do not know.

Perhaps £3.30 to direct download from National Archives would be a better bet !

I have not been able to locate 'Battery' diaries for 280 or 281 Brigades.

Brigade War Diaries are:

280 Brigade WO 95/2940/2 supplied in two parts by NA

281 Brigade WO 95/2940/3.

However both have pages for July, August and September 1917 missing, I am trying to find out where the brigades were during this period.

I believe both Brigades were serving with other Divisions at that time ie as Army Brigades.

In June 280 were with 21st Div and then 33rd Div at St Martin & Heninel.

Hi

Many thanks for the input. I realise the brigade diaries are not availble.

I know I can get the diary from NA but, having paid £120 to get the diaries from Ancestry, it really means I'm paying twice, I suppose.

Regards,

Graeme

The 280 Brigade War Diary cost me £3.30.

What value do you put on your time in trying to get it from Ancestry?
