And proud of them by the look of it. One of them looks very young!

Boy Trumpeter.  Each VF/TF unit was permitted a number of boy musicians, but unlike the regulars, not boy tradesmen (shoemakers, tailors, etc.).  The Militia also.

New large Cabinet card. Very happy with this one! Comes out crystal clear on scanner.

He’s Royal Marines Artillery, so hence the unusual badge arrangement.

Yes, I’ve always thought that glass plate prints give amazingly crisp resolution Toby.

Posted in the PC thread , but a worthy inclusion here.

Postcard sent in 1912, unknown Territorial Force Artillery. Late use of the Martini Enfield Artillery Carbine with 1888 Bayonet. Really interesting to still see the trumpeter with the 1858 Yataghan Bayonet with the steel artillery scabbard, obviously still in use as a decorative sidearm, the latest I have seen it in use.

Very poor quality card of the 1st VB ????. The cap badge is a winged Dragon so I am leaning towards the Buffs. Titles are just visible as well as Musketry badges and an interesting CP Armlet.

Frustratingly Lee Metfords are clearly visible in the tent but I cant read the writing on the box that would solve the mystery!  If anyone can work their magic on the image I would be most grateful.

4th (TF) Btn Royal Berkshires. The late use of the cloth shoulder titles by the Berkshires is no doubt a contributing factor to how often they appear in this thread. Wonderfully annotated postcard sent from Bustard Camp, Salisbury Plain, 17th September 1910.

From a small series of HLI related images I have just acquired. A new addition and style to the thread.  3rd Volunteer Battalion Highland Light Infantry title reads  3VHLI in one line. Rather happy that it turned up in the lot.

Sgt Hamilton of the 3rd VB HLI, from the same series of photographs. With VF proficiency and efficiency stars.  This photo is about 3 inches by 1.5 inches and yet the detail is superb you can even read his belt buckle!

Processing the rest, sadly any information on the owner is lost, but obliviously there is a Scottish connection.  Black Watch this time, some long service there.  Any thoughts on the arm badge? small and circular.

1882 Belt with snake clasp closure.

The last pair, no insignia as such but still a great slice of pre-war life, one can never have to many H.L.I Trews!

There weren’t that many perfectly circular badges, I imagine it might be the bullion wire version of the enclosed stretcher bearer badge.

The snake clasp for the belt seems to have been common to units that were formerly Rifle Volunteer Corps.
