Steve

Lt R B Clark was flying Nieuport 23 No A6777 on a balloon strike near Arras on 24 April when fatally wounded in combat with three or four Albatros scouts. He was twice hit in the leg, but continued to battle the enemy. His aeroplane came down in a shell hole and caught fire, but Clark was pulled clear by Cpl Summers of the 1st Canadian Pioneer Battalion. He insisted on giving his report before allowing his injuries to be treated; he died of wounds on 1 May.

There was no German claim for the Nieuport.

I hope this helps.

Gareth
