Yet I prefer to go to my library and go through my originals...

I think that many of us would choose that option if we had the financial resources to get the relevant copies!;)

Copies? I'm into the originals... Still some some 200 to 300 are missing. I don't dare to think about how much money went into my library.

Copies of the original volumes is what I meant not photo-copies or the like - sorry if I confused you.

Hello!

A huge collection of regimental histories looks fine, of course, but they need a lot of place.

But... when do you look in those books? Sometimes, when you need an information. Do you read all the books? A lot of them a similar to the others.

I have the books, in which units my relatives served with and for me that´s enough.

To work with, for me it´s ok to have the pdf of them.

My approach to working with Roman inscriptions also, which not only take up a lot of space but tend to be somewhat heavy!;)

12. Batterie Fußartillerie-Regiment 13, it is only a typed copy and doesn‘t seem to have been published.

It was published as a typoscript, I have a copy myself.

Thanks for bringing this to the fore again. I have been idly looking through some of the material recently  for something else and it does look (A) like a cataloguers nightmare, and (b) a historians dream! I took at random some of these ones, e.g., shell expenditure at Verdun, and wow, what a lot of material there is to be used there! Well, many years ago I chose the Roman army for my Ph.D and later research - but boy oh boy, what a wealth of data for an inquiring researcher!

Having a look at the website Den Store Krig 1914-1918 , I see there is a page Regimentshistorier

https://denstorekrig1914-1918.dk/listerlitteraturlinks/litteratur/regimentshistorier/

In addition to the volumes in post 36 above, there are histories in Danish and a couple in German which have links to histories

Reserve Infanterie Regiment Nr. 31 (RIR31)

Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 75 (RIR75). Under this regiment it says "eksternt link fra The Open Commons of Phenomenology" The link didn't appear to work, but I found  a new link from the mentioned website, catalogued as  Kriegstaten und Schicksale des Res.-Inf.-Regiments 75 Nach eigenen Erlebnissen und nach Erzählungen der Kameraden berichtet by Dietrich Mahnke

http://ophen.org/pub-101455

Elsewhere the title is given as "Reserve Infanterie Regiment 75 - Kriegstaten und Schicksale des Reserve Infanterie Regiments Nr. 75 1914/18"

The following aren't free, they are on Ancestry, and they are in a more expensive subscription than I have, so I can't give full details, but I noticed the following databases on Ancestry. They appear to contain some books relating to the Great War period, but probably most are pre WW1

"Germany and Austria, Military and Marine Unit Histories, 1760-1933".    A  "collection of 1,000-plus history books"

Deutschland und Österreich, Geschichten militärischer Einheiten, 1760-1933

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/deuautmilitaryhist/

"Germany & Austria, Directories of Military and Marine Officers, 1500-1939"

Deutschland und Österreich, Verzeichnisse von Militär- und Marineoffizieren, 1500-1939

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/militaerbuecher/

"Germany, Military and Marine Weekly Publications, 1816-1942"

Deutschland, militärische Wochen- und Verordnungsblätter, 1816-1942

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/deumilwochenblaetter/

"German Navy Crew Chronicle, 1891-1918"

Chroniken der deutschen Marinebesatzung, 1891-1918

https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/marinecrewchronik/

"This database contains 31 volumes of commemorative publications providing short biographies of officers who graduated from the German Naval Academy in a particular year or class."

Cheers

Thanks for pointing this out Maureen - I had a quick look through the unit histories, and they're listed by region and regiment without always showing the date. However it's clear the vast majority are pre-WWI, and they mostly date from the19th century. Having said that, there are one or two random volumes from WWI so it's not entirely useless (from our point of view!)

All the best, John

I noticed the following as a recent upload to the Internet Archive (Archive.org). German language.

Fuesilier-Regiment "Koenigin" Nr. 86 by Dr. Wilhelm Jürgensen 1925, described as Regimental Kriegstagebuch und Geschichte von Füsilier-Regiment „Königin“ (Schleswig-Holsteinisches) Nr. 86.

https://archive.org/details/fuesilier-regiment-koenigin-nr-86/mode/2up

Also uploaded by the same contributor, Der Krieg by Otto Dix 1924

https://archive.org/details/der-krieg/mode/2up

"24 Offsetdrucke nach Originalen aus dem Radierwerk von Otto Dix"

24 offset prints based on originals from the etching works of Otto Dix (Google Translate)
