Toby Brayley Posted 25 August , 2015 Share Posted 25 August , 2015 (edited) Hello. It maybe somewhat of a long-shot as I am sure that "Hussar Lane" is hardly a unique trench name! I was wondering if anyone could shed any further light on the possible location of Hussar Lane Trench (assuming this is even a trench sign). It is part of a collection from a 10th Royal Hussars chap who sadly didn't survive the war and certainly looks to be very old. *edit* A quick google of "Hussars Lane Trench" does bring up some interesting results and even and image; a Hussar Lane (D33) near Monchy, a famous and costly engagement for the XRH in April 1917. Below is the link to a preview of Monchy Le Preux by Colin Fox as I don't not wish to infringe copyright by posting the images here. https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=NtOkAwAAQBAJ&pg=PA139&lpg=PA139&dq=hussar+lane+trench&source=bl&ots=p7X6SeoNtc&sig=bOzHk5D2x8cHedEUwPkLy-EnkUQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0CCEQ6AEwAGoVChMItdG-wvbDxwIVhTwaCh2Jagl8#v=onepage&q=hussar%20lane%20trench&f=false Regards Toby Edited 25 August , 2015 by Toby Brayley
Gareth Davies Posted 25 August , 2015 Share Posted 25 August , 2015 I suspect that there were several. There was one at Monchy le Preux. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205283388 http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205283387 8 Company C Bn HBMC operated in the vicinity of Hussar Lane on 11 Apr 17. Toby Brayley Posted 25 August , 2015 Author Share Posted 25 August , 2015 (edited) Gareth thank you for the IWM images. It would be nice to try and display it with a tiny bit of background info. I do find it promising (despite no mention of Hussar Lane, or any trench names in the XRH history) that most of the mentions of the name do appear around Monchy an area in which the XRH were fairly active. regards Toby Edited 25 August , 2015 by Toby Brayley
