midshipmanrayley Posted 23 August , 2015 Share Posted 23 August , 2015 Alfred Thomas Barker Collingridge, 1894-1959, was serving aboard H.M.Submarine G13 as Able Bodied J11874 when she encountered and sank German U-boat UC43 off Muckle Flugga, North of Shetland Islands, 10th March 1917. I discovered an old Internet posting which specifically mentions him and lists awards given to the crew for the action. It says he was promoted from Able Bodied to Leading Seaman for his part. Tried "The Gazette" search without success. Can any member advise about promotions as rewards rather than M.I.D. etc? (His brother-in-law William Herbert Victor Le Santo was the subject of a recent topic).
midshipmanrayley Posted 23 August , 2015 Author Share Posted 23 August , 2015 Thanks Bob for service record. Interestingly in the remarks column his promotion is mentioned "Vide M04274/17" and lower down "AWO 866/14-3-1918" war service sub. (Received Long Service, Good Conduct medal).
