Curhalios Posted 17 August , 2015 Share Posted 17 August , 2015 Police Constable George Gayler attested at Aylesbury on 19 February 1916. He was posted to No 1 Coy 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards and served at home - i don't know where - 19 February 1916 to 30 March 1918. He embarked at Southampton on 31 March 1918 and joined the Base Depot - again, I don't know where - on 1 April 1918, joining the Battalion on 6 April 1918. He was posted to the Reserve Battalion on 3 March 1919 and qualified for the War and Victory medals. His service number was 22273. I've found out that the 1st Battalion was part of the 2nd Guards Division and that the Guards Brigade was involved in the Second Battles of the Somme, the Battles of the Hindenburg Line and the Pursuit to the Selle, ending the war in and around Maubeuge. Can anyone help with a little more detail about the 1st Battalion and in particular No 1 Coy? thanks
