Hi,

i'm told that it may be possible to trace my grandfathers batallion through the so called 'army list(s)'.His name was PTE.THOMAS SHUREY and he served with the MIDDLESEX REGIMENT.Could anybody please give me any info on this,or advise me of any other way i might be able to trace his batallion, cheers.

The Army List was a publication which gave details of officers only, so it will not help you.

The only Thomas Shurey of the Middlesex Regt listed in the online index of the Medal Index Cards has the service number G/17771. Perhaps someone can suggest further avenues of exploration.

this PTE.THOMAS SHUREY is my grandfather. Do you think that i may be able to use his service number to get the info i require?Cheers,

Yes, the medal roll for the Victory and British war Medals is likely to give the Battalion/s served in.

They can only be viewed at the National Archives.
