Shiny Posted 10 August , 2015 Share Posted 10 August , 2015 Hi All, Whilst in France I found the grave of a Gordon Highlander who was buried in the same village as the man I've been researching from the 5th Gordons. I've done a search for the man in the grave and found that he was called Pte William B Scott, born in Kincardine-o'neill, Aberdeenshire, service number 242530 and 5718. I've found his medal roll entry and his medal index card which confirms he was also in the 5th Bn but what I'm interested in is which company and platoon he was in. I'm wondering if he could have been a friend of my soldier. Can anyone suggest any way I might be able to find the information? Thanks a lot, Michael
Coldstreamer Posted 11 August , 2015 Share Posted 11 August , 2015 I've rarely found company details on service papers or newspapers, occasionally on cwgc.my best source for the coldstream has been documents held at the regimental archives in casualty ledgers and personal diaries. Waddell Posted 11 August , 2015 Share Posted 11 August , 2015 Michael, I would certainly have a look at the War Diary for March 1918 and also would be worth contacting Carolyn Morrisey who owns the 1/5th Gordon Highlanders website- http://gordonhighlanders.carolynmorrisey.com/index.htm Scott
