Hi All, I am currently researching the above soldier who I have just discovered!, he is my fathers first cousin. He was in the 2nd Battalion Auckland Infantry Regiment, 16th Company and he arrived in England en route to France on 19/08/16. He arrived in Etaples on 16/11/16 and is listed as "in the field" in his military record (Archives NZ) on 9/12/16. He is then listed as missing believed wounded on 21/02/17. It subsequently emerged that he was captured at Haubourdin on that day and died of wounds the following day 22/02/17. What I would love to know is what he did and where he was up to his capture. I can find no records of any action near Haubourdin on that day. Is anyone able to help me with further information please? many thanks Anne

Welcome Bevanne.

I don't know anything of Auckland records but if war diaries exist that would be the place to start.

It should be remembered that men were killed and wounded even when not in a battle situation. Some were shot by snipers and some when manning forward outposts.
