Guest Posted 9 August , 2015 Share Posted 9 August , 2015 Hello, Can anyone give me any information about Private W Maidment (Maidmont) presumably killed 4/2/1917 (or 10/02/1917) in a raid by the Germans on British Trenches. Serial number is 21036 and regiment is 1/6th Royal Warwickshire Regiment.

IPT Posted 9 August , 2015 Share Posted 9 August , 2015 Walter Charles Maidment, enlisted Poole. No entitlement to a star. There is Walter Charles Maidment, living in Poole on the 1911 census. He was a labourer in a brick and pipe manufacturer.
ss002d6252 Posted 9 August , 2015 Share Posted 9 August , 2015 His war gratuity would indicate service of 12 months or less at time of death. Craig
Guest Posted 9 August , 2015 Share Posted 9 August , 2015 Cheers all. Got a little confused at 2 dates of death. Buried in Kiboko Wood just behind the lines. Thanks all.
ss002d6252 Posted 9 August , 2015 Share Posted 9 August , 2015 Having a range of dates means that the death is accepted to have occurred during or between those dates. The date range tends to be between when the man was last seen alive and the date the battalion next held an official roll call. Craig
Guest Posted 9 August , 2015 Share Posted 9 August , 2015 Having consulted the war diary his death was on the 4th after a big German raid on the sector a couple of men were missing after the raid but somehow ended up being buried in the frontline.
