Brian Buck Posted 15 November , 2004 Share Posted 15 November , 2004 Our French friends saw this film last week and found it very good. It should be released in the UK in January 2005. It is based on the novel by Sebastien Japrisot and tells the story of five French soldiers who, in 1917, are marched into No Man's Land at night with their hands tied behind their backs and left for the Germans to shoot because they refused to fight. Five bodies are recovered and the families are notified that the men died in the line of duty. The fiancé of one of them hears the story of the execution and suspects that perhaps the story didn't end quite so neatly. And so begins her long investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the deaths - one of which, at least, might not really be dead. Does anyone know more about this method of dealing with cowardice in the French Army?
Paul Hederer Posted 17 November , 2004 Share Posted 17 November , 2004 Some friends of mine also saw this and said it was very good. Read the book many years back--looking forward to the movie. Paul
