I have in my possession two war medals.

Please help me with the details of the soldiers they were awarded to so that I can try contacting the families.

First is a India General Service medal with medal no 3479. The rim of the Medal reads 3479 SEP (text missing) 4-19 HY'BAD. R.

The second is a Silver war badge with id No : I - 26063
Any details would be appreciated.

The service number 3479 comes up with lots of choices but this may be him:

Name: Singh Babu

Regiment or Corps: 96th Infantry, 2/19 Hy'bad R

Regimental Number: 3479, 3479

His Medal Index Card has: "GS Med GSM/India/30 19 + Clasp Iraq"

Again on Ancestry. More information can be found on the The Long, Long Trail website.

I know little about swbs but this one reads No : I - 26063. Would not the I indicate Indian rather than the British one suggested?

As pointed out by

Jim Strawbridge , the prefix I suggests someone of Indian origin.

CAn you look into that.

Sorry, Ancestry doesn't appear to have a separate Indian record

I think it best if you searched for the correct name. Access to Ancestry is free in many local libraries and/or sometimes there are deals for temporary or trial memberships.

Good luck!
