roughdiamond Posted 24 June , 2015 Share Posted 24 June , 2015 Watched a programme this morning on PBS America "Fall of Japan" it's based on the films and words of a British Journalist and film maker who was close to Douglas McArthur. Amazing footage but strangely I've never heard of him and he doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. So to the WW1 element, the programme mentioned he was a WW1 veteran of the Army, RFC and RAF, his papers are at the Churchill archive and the bio http://janus.lib.cam.ac.uk/db/node.xsp?id=EAD%2FGBR%2F0014%2FCTNY;sib0=117 states he was Cheshire's, RFC and RAF, in addition a film by him in the Australian War Memorial https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/F10003/ states he was a "MM" but I had no luck with a MIC anyone fare any better? If you get the chance to catch the programme, it's well worth while. Sam
roughdiamond Posted 24 June , 2015 Author Share Posted 24 June , 2015 This 1942 article https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=2194&dat=19420101&id=1r0vAAAAIBAJ&sjid=ttsFAAAAIBAJ&pg=3119,431600&hl=en from the "Ottowa Citizen" seems to be about him, but still no MIC. Noticed William Courtenay written a book in 1936 called "Airman Friday", but that seems to be a reference to his work with Amy Johnson rather than a pseudonym. Steve I've edited the post just so they don't get the email address grabbed by anything nasty. Craig
