Remembered Today:

Presentation of MM medal - WW1 2nd Div. Australian soldier

Recommended Posts

I am researching Charles James BURTON, who is listed on our Club's WW1 HR.

He was awarded the Military Medal on March 7th 1918 for 'gallantry and devotion' of duty 20 Sep 1917

AIF service # 4378 - NAA

He was shipped home to Australia on 23 Mar 1918, due to injuries. I am presuming that the presentation of his award would have occurred in Sydney, at some point in time, which is what I have been trying to find; alas, a search on TROVE, re newspaper articles, hasn't as yet yield any result.

Appreciate if anyone can assist, thanks

Hi, as a generalisation, the brigade unit war diary normally noted the parade for those awarded medals and decorations on previous operations. Often, there was a lag of a quite a few months.

Therefore, as he was already back in Australia, I am guessing soon after 31 May 1918 when he was advised by letter that the award had been gazetted in Australia.
