Remembered Today:

Soldiers at Gallipoli

I have not read as many memoirs by soldiers who were at Gallipoli as I would have liked and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I read:

Make Me a Soldier By: Arthur Behrend

Gallipoli to the Somme By: Alexander Aitken

My Bit By: George Ashurst

All were wonderful accounts and I highly recommend all three, and am looking forward to reading more. Please post if you have recommendations. Thank you.

I have a copy of Gallipoli 1915, By Joseph Murray, who served in the Hood Battalion of the Royal Naval Division. It is many years since I read it, soI can't give a detailed recommendation. However, I recall it includes quite a lot about mining.

Cheers,

'The Desert Column' by Ion L Idreiss. He was a member of the 5th Light Horse Regiment and served at Gallipoli & Palestine. He has some very good descriptions about the life at Gallipoli.

Last night UK History had an excellent program re the Gallipoli landings. Anyone else see it?

In my humble opinion a reasonable account of a Territorial at Gallipoli in the 42nd East Lancs Diivison is 'I shall not find his Equal'.

I assume you have no personal interest in the volume?
