Remembered Today:

Interpreting a casualty record?

Hi all,

I am looking at a soldier's service file, and on his Casualty Form for Active Service it is marked:

O.C.6 Berks W. at duty. In the field 31.7.17 Lieut

Does this mean wounded?

The 6th Berks (18th Division) was in action on the first day of Passchendaele in Glencorse Wood and received intense MG fire just short of the Menin Road. However by 10 am the 6th had been able to capture Jargon Switch trench and the crossroads NW of Glencorse Wood.
