researchingreg Posted 18 May , 2015 Posted 18 May , 2015 I am trying to find out about an ex miner born 1891, Pte. Alma Ford 17961 (first number 12059) who enlisted 26 Sep 1914 when the 9th Battalion was formed. On his service record, it shows he was in D Coy. He served in France 26 Aug 1915 to 12 Nov 1917. Then he served in Italy from 13 Nov 1917 to 17 Sep 1918. Then transferred back to France 18 Sep 1918. Then was posted home 29 Dec 1918. I have seen the War Diaries for the 9th Bn for their times in France, and they seem to have seen a lot of action. But I have not seen a war diary for their service in Italy. I have heard there was a detachment that used ex-miners. Does anybody know if there are war diaries for the Italian service?
Colin W Taylor Posted 18 May , 2015 Posted 18 May , 2015 Reg The diaries exist but are only able to be viewed at Kew as they have yet to be digitized. http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C7357329 Kind regards Colin
