William Stolworthy, 1881-1914 born in Great Yarmouth and a pre-war professional soldier. Served as serjeant L/5881 1st battalion Queen's Regiment, died 31st October 1914.

(His brother Thomas Stolworthy has a separate topic).

Only just discovered William although I knew about his brother. Can any member please help me with details of his service? Currently in Spain and cannot bring up his CWGC details or any papers he might have.

Do you know how old your man was? It's a long shot and probably not relevant, but there's a William John Stolworthy who enlisted at Great Yarmouth in 1890 aged 17 years 1 month with papers on FMP. He was 1226 with Norfolk Artillery. He rose to the rank of Sergeant, was re-engaged in 1904 and was discharged time served in 1908.

Many thanks Bob and Verrico. Suspected he was married although not that he was a Boer War veteran. John

http://armyservicenumbers.blogspot.co.uk/2009/06/east-surrey-regiment-1st-2nd-battalions.html has 5806 enlisting 13/1/1899 and 6271 on 30/1/1900. Given the Boer War it seems likely he was fairly well towards the beginning of that date range.
