daggers Posted 10 May , 2015 Share Posted 10 May , 2015 Lieut Robert Richard McCartney RFA was twice mentioned in dispatches and twice awarded the MC. I have the Gazette entries for the MC awards and for the citation of the first, but cannot find a second citation. Thinking his TNA medal cards would perhaps give a clue to the LG entry I lashed out the fee, only to find that his second card (not the one on Ancestry), was for a Mention, with his name mis-spelled as MacCartney. The second MC was listed in the LG Supplement of 3 June 1918, p. 6462. Any suggestions, please? Daggers
Stebie9173 Posted 10 May , 2015 Share Posted 10 May , 2015 There will not be a Citation published in the London Gazette for the London Gazette entry on 3 June 1918 - these were King's Birthday Honours and though there would have been a citation they were not published. David Porter Posted 10 May , 2015 Share Posted 10 May , 2015 I think the second will be this one - dated September 16, 1918 (and on Supplement page 10985).
daggers Posted 10 May , 2015 Author Share Posted 10 May , 2015 Thank you both. David, as the name is not followed by 'MC' I think that is the first award, not the second. The listing for the second award (suppl. 3/6/18 p.6462) does show him as 'MC'. Stebie's comment is probably the answer to this. Daggers
