Sanctuary Wood Trenches A1 & A2 July 1915

Hi All

I am trying to locate trenches A1 & A2 near Sanctuary Wood as at 28 July 1915. I estimate that they were between Gouroch Road and the Observatory Ridge road probably very close to Hill 62. They were blown up by the Germans on 28 July 1915 when the 4th Lincolns were the unfortunate incumbents.

I have attached a copy of a sketch from 13 Middlesex war diary (quality is not to good) which shows the trenches decreasing alphabetically as far as B4 about where Gouroch Road joined the frontline. Any help greatly appreciated.

Chris,

I don't know if it is of any help to you, but there was a thread Here, not long ago on trenches in 1915 in that area. As I found when I was searching for 3rd Division trenches in 1915, different divisions sometimes had different names for the same trench.

Thanks or that pointer, from the 2 sketches in that earlier thread it looks as if A1 & A2 were in front of and just to the south of Mount Sorrel.
