Hallo,

please can you tell me when 10th Bn. West Riding Regiment entered in action during the Battle of Vittorio Veneto? I know that 69th brigade crossed the river Piave on 27 October, do you know if the brigade, and the 10th Bn WRR in particular, partecipated in the capture of the Grave di Papadopoli from 23rd to 26th October?

regards,

Mario

Mario - suggest you post this in the 'Units' forum as well, its more likely to be seen there. My grandfather was with 1/4 Berkshires in the 48 South Midland Division.

They were in camp at Catena from 23rd to the 24th when they moved to the front-line - via Lovadina - in preparation for an advance onto the Papadopoli island Lido (shore?)...a move that was reversed as soon as they arrived and they then went back to camp at Catena until the 26th. On the 26th they moved forwards again and advanced over the Piave to the northern parts of the island and went on the attack on the morning of the 27th.

It would seem that the 10th West Ridings were only on Papadopoli for a few hours overnight on 26th/27th October and only in the more northerly parts.

Dave.
