Hi,would anyone have a trench map of this area during april 1918 please? I'm doing some research on my grandad who was taken prisoner with the 16th manchesters on the 26th april 1918. And I just wondered what the layout was when the Germans attacked the line they were holding. Thank you

That'll be Voormezeele that you're wanting. The remnants of the 16th Mancs withdrew from Lock No.8 around that date I think? .

This 1:20,000 scale map extract dates from 10th April 1918...

...and another 1:10,000 scaler. This one from May 1918 (ignore the double over-print of water-features!)...

And if you visit the area, you can find the small dugout in the canal bank which was HQ for composite 16th and 17th M/cs for the 3 days of fighting 25-28 April. Not easy to find, easier in dry weather, and usually well hidden in the weeds and bushes.

Marked below on Dave's map.
