I am looking at the records (Service & Pension) from Ancestry. While I have seen a fair number of service records this chap has an impressive number of Form B 103s full of obscure abbreviations etc.

The first two that are confusing me are to do with hospitalisation (he is hospitalised many times) - examples:

Adm 9 Sty Hosp Havre

HYD/NVD/NYD (this abbreviation appears a number of times and I think NYD is the most likely to be the correct transcription)

and

Disc Ex 9 S H to Rouen

VDG

What do NYD/HYD/NVD and VDG refer too? On other occasions he is admitted to hospital with what appears to be 'NYD slight' If it is any help his main health problem seems to be gonnorhoea.

Then there are places:

Nov 1915 - No 1 Camp, Havre and 2 I B, Havre. I am assuming 2 I B is 2 Infantry Base Depot (the date is mid-late 1915) and that No 1 Camp is a part of the IBD. I have seen that No 1 Camp was for convalescing soldiers, which would make sense. What is problematic is the location as the Long Long Trail has 2 IBD at Rouen not Havre - did it move? By April 1916 he is being discharged to 2 IB, Rouen.

Military Prison 'The Yard', Havre - I googled and found nothing. Shefford was sent here in Feb 1916 after being sentenced to 10 days FP No1. Any details of this prison anyone?

There are more questions, but I guess these are plenty for now.

Phil

NYD = Not yet diagnosed [they should all read NYD]

VDG = Venereal disease - gonorrhoea

Thanks Diane - I'm sure they do all say the same - it's just handwriting variations.
