Langdon Posted 30 April , 2015 Share Posted 30 April , 2015 John Heslop Stitt's Medal Index Card is here on Ancestry erroneously under Gordon Hussars. The National Archives spells his second name 'Healoh'. Mike

sotonmate Posted 30 April , 2015 Share Posted 30 April , 2015 Joe Looks like Officer Stitt's file is a post-1922 one as he isn't on Discovery in either WO339 or WO374. You might get a reference for him from WO338 Index.
MickLeeds Posted 30 April , 2015 Share Posted 30 April , 2015 Hello. "He showed exceptional powers of leadership and initiative in taking command of 2 companies that had no officers left. He personally led a bombing attack, established himself in the enemy trench and captured over a hundred of the enemy and a machine gun. His energy, courage and coolness were most marked." MC citation. Daily Record 20 July 1917. He was in the army untill at least 1923. There is an article in the Aberdeen Journal of that year. (His servant sold a watch that he had borrowed from him). A bit extra from the Berwickshire News and General Advertiser 07 August 1917. "He is a son of Mr & Mrs C A Stitt, 29 Cluny Gardens, Edinburgh and a grandson of the late Jas S Mack of Coveyheugh, Reston, DL for Berwickshire and was educated at Merchiston and Uppingham. He afterwards entered Sandhurst and obtained his commission in Oct 1916." Mick.
