Guest johnwat Posted 28 April , 2015 Share Posted 28 April , 2015 How were regimental numbers allocated on signing up. Was there a sequence or was it dependent on the regiment /division they were joining? I am trying to find as much information I can of my grand father, F Thomas, Gnr. 83835 RFA served 1914-19, joined August 1914 in Birmingham. I have his Medal Card but no Service Record. From looking at other RFA regimental numbers around 83835 with Service records I think he would have fought with the 14th Light Division possibly with the 47/48 th Bde. Is this as far as I can go? Are there records of units embarking at Southampton for France? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
