JeffsmithAFSM Posted 27 April , 2015 Share Posted 27 April , 2015 The other day at our ANZAC service here is West Australia I was talking to a gentleman about researching my grandfathers military history and he said that each Commanding Officer kept a war diary. I would like to know if the C O of 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters would have kept one and if so were would it be now
Peter Zieminski Posted 27 April , 2015 Share Posted 27 April , 2015 There is a War Diary for the 9th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire) in Ancestry's UK, WW1 War Diaries (France, Belgium and Germany 1914 - 1920) which starts on the 1st July 1916. Langdon Posted 27 April , 2015 Share Posted 27 April , 2015 (edited) Long shot (and far away!) but the IWM here in London have personal papers of CO's - Lieutenant Colonel C L Nicholson's of the 2nd East Lancs were donated by his family and provided further excellent detail to the battalian war diaries during research into my great uncle's service. Here is a previous thread about the 9th from 2013 - Graeme Clarke may well be able to help you.. And another thread here. I'm presuming you're looking at Gallipoli so apologies if that's not the case... Best, Mike Edited 27 April , 2015 by Langdon
