Knrodgers Posted 25 April , 2015 Share Posted 25 April , 2015 My first post and my apologies if I've posted in the wrong place. My grandfather (Daniel Rodgers) joined the Lancashire Hussars Yeomanry (Private 973 on his medal roll). I have very little about him and would welcome any help from other members. Prior to joining he was a groom in Lord Derby's stables at Knowsley and I wonder if he would have been given one of the horses from the stables to take with him. My father always told me that grandad hardly ever spoke about the war but when he did, he spoke of the suffering of the horses. My grandad was then transferred to the North Stafford Regiment and then onto the Kings Liverpool Regiment. I'm told he was wounded in the arm (my dad thought it was at the Somme, but I don't know) and he was on a hospital ship in The Mersey when peace was declared. Any help in where I can go to flesh this out would be very welcome.
ss002d6252 Posted 25 April , 2015 Share Posted 25 April , 2015 He served overseas with the Yeomanry initially but he was transferred to the North Staffordshire regiment at a later date (as #235212) and then the Kings Liverpool regiment ( as #300555). He went overseas on 10/11/1915 and was disembodied on 07/03/1919. Craig
Langdon Posted 25 April , 2015 Share Posted 25 April , 2015 (edited) Looking at his Medal Index Card date of entry into France (10th November 1915) he would have been in D Squadron of 1/1st Battalion of the Yeomanry as here in the Long, Long Trail. From the North Staffs 1914/15 Roll (and from the numbering on his MIC) I think he joined the North Staffs (2/6th) after the King's Liverpool (18th) - he was disembodied as no. 235212. The Battalions are shown on his North Staffs British and Victory Medal Roll. Mike Edited 25 April , 2015 by Langdon
