He was originally No.843 with the Highland Divisional Cyclist Company, but he was posted overseas with the 19th Battalion King's Liverpool Reg't.

His Grave Registration documents on CWGC show he was attached to the 89th Trench Mortar Battery (30th Division) at the time of his death.

Pte. James Amess KLR is also named on the Auchtergaven Parish War Memorial, near Stanley.

On the Perth Academy thread on the same site there is a reference to an Academy magazine "They Young Barbarian" which ahs details of the fallen.

Maybe a PM to "dhubthaigh" who is also a member of this forum, might be worthwhile?

Ken, thanks for the reply. The Scottish War Memorials Project was the starting point for my research. The majority of the information was provided by "dhubthaigh" and I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am now without this information, it has been invaluable. I have searched all the school magazines in the local library, and the local papers as well, and have gathered a lot of information on the 165 names on the memorial. James Amess is among the last 30 or so, and the information is now starting to get less and less. However, what I have now is certainly a bit more detail than I had before, and every little bit adds to the story of the person behind the name.

Thanks for your help,

Dave.
