mark holden Posted 25 April , 2015 Share Posted 25 April , 2015 Marcus, I can't provide a comprehensive answer to your question. John Bodsworth and Formation Sign issue 255 put the introduction of slip on cloth S/Ts as April 1916 and in wear from Jun 1916. I have a feeling they were approved slightly earlier than Apr 16 but can't recall the ACI. They were moved from the strap to top of the shoulder GRO 2137 13.2.17. I am sure that this was not universally enforced and given the evidence of GM S/Ts in late war photos the cloth S/Ts did not replace them. I can't answer if GM S/Ts were officially withdrawn but as you know the MOD/WD will always use up existing stocks where possible! regards Mark
Andrew Upton Posted 25 April , 2015 Share Posted 25 April , 2015 Firstly does anyone have the official details (ACI etc), of when cloth Regimental shoulder titles were officially reintroduced for wear on the jacket? Secondly does anyone know that with the reintroduction of cloth titles were brass titles officially withdrawn until after the end of the war on field dress? A couple of previous threads might be of use - on the second question, it was authorized for cloth AND metal titles to be worn together in 1917: http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=88885&st=0 http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=143181&page=
