Seadog Posted 18 April , 2015 Share Posted 18 April , 2015 There will be events at the cemetery to mark Anzac Day on 25th April 2015 Link http://www.arnosvale.org.uk/latest-news/720-anzac-day-events The photos show the recently reinstated grave markers at " Soldiers Corner" Before and After The graves are of those who died in one of the many war hospitals located in the city. The flat stone ledgers were originally put on the graves by the Bristol branch of the British Red Cross Society, to replace the simple wooden cross markers that had been used during wartime,240 men are buried in this place and their names are recorded on the memorial at the rear. The inscription on the Memorial THE GLORIOUS DEAD A D 1914 - 1918 The inscription on the right reads:- PROCLAIM THROUGHOUT THIS REALM YE WHO PASS THIS MONUMENT THAT WE WHO DIED SERVING HER REST HERE CONTENT BBC News Item - With an original photo of the site http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-31606032 Image Link https://www.flickr.com/photos/glosters/16042875983 Grave marker https://www.flickr.com/photos/glosters/16042989373 Norman
CBooth Posted 20 April , 2015 Share Posted 20 April , 2015 (edited) Hi Norman, and others who may be interested in attending I believe the service is on Saturday rather than Sunday, and the official start is 10.30 am: http://www.arnosvale.org.uk/latest-news/720-anzac-day-events. Of course, there may be two such services this weekend, but as far as I can see the Cemetery website mentions only the one. There are a number of other activities on Saturday as well (see the link above, and also this one: http://www.arnosvale.org.uk/all-events-listings/eventdetail/1570/-/anzac-day-illustrated-talk) Best wishes Charles Edited 20 April , 2015 by Charles Booth
