Remembered Today:

Lost portraits of the Somme

I stumbled upon this in, of all places, the excellent forum 'WW2 Talk'. A search on this forum revealed, to my surprise, nothing. But apologies if it has been posted before.

"In the heart of the First World War's battlefields, British soldiers visited a local amateur photographer to sit for souvenir portraits to be sent home as postcards. The discovery of the latest tranche of these extraordinary pictures and the chair many were taken on provides a rare, tender view of those who fought."

Yes. they're a fantastic series of images aren't they?

I'm surprised that 4 or 5 have actually been identified.
