Smoggy Andy Posted 17 April , 2015 Share Posted 17 April , 2015 Hi all, Like so many of you I am looking for help. I am wondering if anyone has any photos on the 12th prior to 27th September 1915 and their involvement at Loos in France. My Grandparent had what would have been her uncle sign up with the 12th Battalion, NF. His name was Pte. George Undy Keen, service no 5267 Thanks Andy
sotonmate Posted 17 April , 2015 Share Posted 17 April , 2015 Andy The 12 NF were formed at Newcastle in Sep 1914 and later became a part of 62 Infantry Brigade of 21 Division. Their UK moves are shown as part of 21 Division's page from the Long Long Trail at top left of this page: http://www.1914-1918.net/21div.htm Photographs might be encountered from news archives for the places they were based at during the run up to shipping out to France, where the soldier arrived on 9.9.1915 according to the Medal Index Card. You will see that the Division wasn't treated very well in the short time prior to entering the Battle of Loos, which they did from around 1050 hrs on 26 September, see another LLT page: http://www.1914-1918.net/bat13.htm and they were decimated. He was killed in action at some time between the 25th and 27th,the latter date probably being the first chance of a Roll Call of the survivors. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Loos Memorial.
