Can anyone suggest a where and when.

The picture was given to me as part of my research into Trowbridge Barracks but that location seems unlikely.

Thomas Dowling who is appearently in the picture served at the Barracks at one stage.

67th Siege Battery RGA were at the Barracks in 1916.

477th Siege Battery was formed at the Siege School Aldershot near the end of July 1917. The battery, as far as I am aware, did not go overseas but the men were posted as reinforcements to other batteries. In the records for men of 477 SB I have seen they were being posted overseas near the end of Nov. 1917 from Hilsea (for some reason). I do not know whether they ever went to Lydd for shooting practice but suspect the photo was probably taken at Aldershot after sometime between late Aug-Sept 1917. I may be wrong.

I suspect without further info. that S/R 5443 Thomas Dowling of the RGA may have been in the photo, but he was discharged 30/10/1917 so did not go overseas with these men.
