Anthony Bagshaw Posted 9 November , 2004 Share Posted 9 November , 2004 I have managed to acquire a 1914-15 star awarded to 1626 Pte L Bagshaw 11th Sherwood Foresters. He was KIA 17/10/17 with the number 240191 Today i downloaded his MIC to see when he entered his qualifying theatre of war, this being 25th February 1915. At the side of the British War and Victory medals are the words ''Returned (KR) 8115''. His BWM and VM appear to have been named to his latter service service number. MIC states KIA 17/10/17 I am just wondering why his BWM and VM were returned but his star is in my possesion. Obviously i will never know the real reason why the medals were returned but would like to have an idea. Can anyone enlighten me in any way? Thanks

Max Posted 9 November , 2004 Share Posted 9 November , 2004 Hello Anthony I think it may mean that the next of kin may have moved houses and were untraceable between the time that the 1914-15 Star was issued and the issuing of the BWM and VM. Anthony Bagshaw Posted 9 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 9 November , 2004 Des, Andy, Thank you for your replies. So his BWM and VM may not have ever been received by his family? The same may have happened to the Memorial plaque aswell then.
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 9 November , 2004 Share Posted 9 November , 2004 Quite Probably,As the BWM & AVM were normally issued anything up to 2 or 3 years after the Stars,Possibly his Next of Kin had Died,Moved, Remarried ,etc in the intervening years
Anthony Bagshaw Posted 10 November , 2004 Author Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Thanks for everyones replies. Sad to think that the family only had his 1914-15 star in their possesion to remember him by. Is it possible that they could have reclaimed the medals? Michael Posted 10 November , 2004 Share Posted 10 November , 2004 Anthony You need to check the medal rolls. Sometimes you see that medals were returned KR..... , but another annotation is added that they have been re-issued at later date. For instance...
